Stormwater Plans & Info

The Planning & Development Department and the town's various land use commissions are charged with ensuring that stormwater runoff does not negatively impact properties or the environment. When it rains or when snow melts, the water needs to flow somewhere. And depending upon where it is flowing from, it might carry pollutants with it (sand, salt, oil and other substances you might find on paved surfaces or rooftops). The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection requires cities and towns to take a number of measures to reduce the impact that can result from the quantity and quality of stormwater.  This regulatory program is commonly called the "MS4" program which stands for municipal seperate storm sewer systems.
