Food Assistance

To participate in Tolland Food Assistance Programs or to receive food from the Tolland Food Pantry, you must be a Tolland resident and meet the income requirements. For more information, contact Human Services at 860-871-3648. Food Assistance Applications and item checklists are available at the bottom of this page. Completed applications and checklists can be emailed to lmurdock@tollandct.gov


Keep an eye out for our Food Pantry Need of the Month!
Our collection basket is located at the Tolland Public Library (21 Tolland Green) in the lobby.

For the month of June, our theme is: School's Out for Summer! We are collecting individually wrapped snacks/drinks of all varieties!
We are collecting the following items:

  • Granola bars, protein bars, cereal bars, rice krispies

  • Peanut butter crackers, cheese crackers

  • Chips, popcorn, goldfish, pretzels, cheese Its

  • Fruit snacks, trail mix, fruit bars

  • Cookie packs, mini muffins, brownie packs, pop tarts

  • Applesauce, pudding cups, jello cups

  • Fruit cups of all varieties

  • Juice boxes

Donation bin located at the Tolland Public Library in the Lobby (21 Tolland Green Parking Lot C).

Gift card donations are also greatly appreciated and help community members supplement fresh and essential items. Please drop these off directly at the Human Services Office on the 4th Level of the Town Hall.

        *Please call the Human Services Department at 860-871-3648 to arrange a time to drop off donations to the Human Services Office*   

The primary purpose of all donations is to meet the needs of Tolland residents. After these needs are met, excess items may be shared with residents and families in surrounding Tolland County communities.


Supplemental Assistance Nutrition Program (SNAP)
Tolland residents can apply for SNAP benefits (formerly known as Food Stamps) on-line by clicking here or in person at the Department of Social Services.

Foodshare Mobile Food Pantry
Mobile Foodshare is an outdoor food distribution for persons of low income.  The food choices vary from week to week but usually include bread and several types of fresh produce. Other items may also be offered depending on availability.

  • The FoodShare Mobile Food Pantry is available in Tolland on alternate Thursdays:
    • May 14th & 28th 
    • June 11th & 25th 
    • July 9th & 23rd
    • August 6th & 20th 
    • September 3rd 
  • 10-10:30 a.m. in the parking lot adjacent to the United Congregational Church of Tolland, 45 Tolland Green.
  • You are not required to go to the Food Pantry in your town, you may go to any location.
  • Pre-registration and identification are not required.
  • Once a year newcomers may be asked to complete a brief form verifying income and need for assistance.
  • For more information about FoodShare, residents may contact FOODSHARE at (860) 286-9999 or the UCC office at (860) 875-4160.
  • Visit the FOODSHARE website for other locations and schedules.
  • Residents participating in the program must bring their own bags.
