Adopt-A-Spot Program

The Adopt-A-Spot program enables civic clubs, individuals, garden clubs, businesses, churches, and other organizations to maintain various Town monuments or historical markers, Park signs, guardrails, walkways and other landscaped traffic islands. Volunteers perform routine maintenance such as weeding, litter removal, landscape plantings, painting, and in some cases minor repairs. You may also choose to donate funds to help pay for the maintenance.

What would I be asked to do? This depends on the area you choose to adopt. Many roadsides may only need litter picked up regularly. Other areas may need planting and weeding so they do not become overgrown. Guardrails and signs may need a fresh coat of paint. The Parks and Facilities Department will be able to suggest a location ideal for you.

How do I find my property? The best way is to look out your window and see if there is a spot you would like to maintain near home. If you take regular walks, you may see a place that you go by that is just begging for some attention. If you do not see a location that you like, the Parks & Facilities Department staff can match your time and talents to a location from their list of properties available for adoption.

What if I want to help but don’t have time? This is a common question asked by many businesses. You might consider donations of materials or discounts on products or services that could be used in maintaining spots around Tolland. The Parks and Facilities Department will match your donations with the volunteers who will put them to use throughout the town.

Recognition of your efforts. The Town of Tolland will place a sign with your name at the adopted site.  You may begin the process by printing and filling out the application form below. Caretakers who do not wish to be recognized may remain anonymous.
