Tolland Town Council Statement in Support of the LGBTQ+ Community

As elected representatives of the Tolland Town Council, we value the diversity of our LGBTQ+ community and their contributions to our town.  We condemn intolerance and discrimination in any form towards the LGBTQ+ community, and look to promote supportive dialogues and policies.

As elected representatives of the Tolland Town Council, we will endeavor to uphold these values and standards.  We will work to:

• Evaluate the policies/ordinances we implement or update them to ensure they guard against bias based on gender identity or expression and sexual orientation;
• Look for opportunities to provide education to our community on the negative impact bigotry and intolerance towards members of the LGBTQ+ community has on our town;
• Ensure our municipal departments have policies and practices in place that safeguard employment, and that services are not denied based on gender identity or expression and sexual orientation;
• Purposefully identify, discuss, and challenge issues facing the LGBTQ+ community and the impact they have on our community.

We encourage the respectful exchange of ideas from all members of our community with the goal of helping all residents of Tolland understand that our LGBTQ+ neighbors belong to a welcoming community that values their diversity and rejects bigotry, intolerance and discrimination.
