Air Quality News Release

**For Immediate Release** June 9, 2023

(Tolland, Connecticut) - Due to elevated Air Quality Indexes across the state this week caused by the Canadian wildfires, the Connecticut Department of Public Health is suggesting that vulnerable residents monitor Air Quality Indexes by visiting www.airnow.gov and taking appropriate precautions. While local conditions are predicted to improve this weekend, there remains the possibility of a resurgence in the days and weeks to come.

In response to these unhealthy Air Quality conditions Tolland Emergency Management will make N-95 masks available at several locations in town during regular business hours including the Library (21 Tolland Green), the Fire Department’s Training Center (191 Merrow Road), Fire Station 140 (64 Crystal Lake Road) and Fire Station 240 (3 Rhodes Road).

For those who may already have a supply of BYD-N95 respirators they received from previous distributions in Tolland, please note that NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) has authorized a five year extension of the expiration dates printed on the box.
