Tolland Village Area
The Planning and Zoning Commission spent several years examining the “Tolland Village Area”, located adjacent to the Exit 68 interchange. The Commission recognized that with a prime location, development will likely occur here and that current zoning might not result in development that reflects Tolland’s character. The Commission conducted studies and held a number of public meetings to form a vision for a town center. During a 2009 telephone survey, two-thirds (64%) of Tolland residents expressed support for the concept of creating a “community focal point, similar to a village-type ‘town center,’ in a walking friendly setting with community gathering spots and shops” in Tolland. The result of this effort is a set of zoning regulations that enable village-style development and design guidelines to ensure that development achieves the vision.
