Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities

The Vocational Rehabilitation Program at the Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind (BESB) is a proud partner of the American Job Center Network and provides school-to-work transition services to blind or visually impaired youth and assists adults to obtain, retain and advance in employment. The Program also provides technical assistance and job candidate referral services to employers across the state. You can reach the Program by phone at 860-424-5055; Toll-Free: 800-537-2549.

The Connecticut Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program can help individuals with disabilities to prepare for, find and keep a job. It is open to individuals who have a significant physical or mental condition (except legal blindness, which is covered by a separate VR program discussed above) which poses a substantial barrier to employment, and must require VR services in order to prepare for, find and succeed in employment. Services are individualized and include: Vocational counseling, benefits counseling, job search assistance, school-to-work transition services, skills training and career education in college and/or vocational schools, on-the-job training in business and industry, assistive technology services such as adaptive equipment for mobility, communication and work activities, vehicle and home modification, supported employment services, services to assist in restoring or improving a physical and/or mental impairment, and help accessing other programs and services. You can reach the Program by phone at 800-537-2549.
